The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #7: The Neti Pot

Episode #7 includes: "Green" homemade bath salts, Get to know the Neti pot, the Beauty found in a can of vegetarian chili and best of all the elusive Paul of "Paul's picks" gives and interview.

We are all sick here in Snailwell. The people, the houses and the drains. I find myself a little jaded with Earth day when I find an environmental nightmare in the middle of our local Earth Day festival.

Enjoy the first half of an intimate interview with Paul of Snailwell Gazette 'zine fame and his equally well known wife Gaynor.

Make your own eco friendly (and cheap!) bath salts by combining 2/3 a container of Epsom salts with 1/3 a container of powdered milk and add the essential oil/s of your choice. Shake, rattle and roll until well combined. I suggest trying the lavender/lemon oil combination or the ylang ylang/patchuli combo. Add to bath under running water and enjoy!

In the Yoga moment the neti pot is explored. Clear your sinuses and reduce allergy irritants among other things by filling this small pot full of warm salt water (1 tsp neti or pure sea salt/ one liter warm water). Then insert the spout of the pot into your upper nostril with your head turned sideways and tilted forehead down over a sink. Pour the water into your nostril. It will come gently out your other nostril. If the water comes into your throat, tilt forehead a little further down. Close nostril in which the water was poured and blow other nostril into sink. Repeat other side. Blow nose well and for Pete's sake clean your sink!

Veggi mama explores the beauty found in a can of vegetarian chili. Find the recipes on the podcast along with more vegetarian family friendly recipes on www.veggiemamacooks.wordpress.com .

Thanks to the Podsafe Music network. This week we heard from, Tommy the Silent with Blind, Apryle Dalmacio with On the Other Side, 3 Feet Up with Always is Always, Can't Hate the Hater and Untie your Head.

The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #4

The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #4

-We chat with Uncle Chris about our journey to Scotland and the wedding that was our destination.

-In Just Clean Green: We wonder about the exact ingredients of fabric softeners. Try my recipe, just add 20-30 drops of an essential oil to a bottle of Vinegar (use Heinz (tm) or another petroleum free brand). When you do a load of laundry fill a Downey (tm) fabric softener ball with the concoction and throw in with your wash for a soft, great smelling load of laundry.

-Pick of the Week: Check out the book I mentioned, look for "Newman's Own Organics Guide to the Good Life" by Nell Newman. It is a great book with simple ways to lead a more eco-friendly life.

-The next pick is the March/April issue of "Mother Jones" magazine for an all you need to know, but were afraid to ask about the Iraq war. Check it out or go to www.motherjones.com

-In the Yoga Moment: We review Ahimsa; the practice of non-violence in Yoga, to the world and to ourselves. Then we practice a counted breath with an inhale through the nose of four counts and an exhale through the nose of six counts.

Music from the Podsafe Music Network: Epcot USA by Dierdre Flint. Danny Monaghan, Twig Old Bush by Beyond the Pale. At the Sea by Adam Zampina and our old standby; My Brother Sylveste by The Pubcrawlers.

Thanks for listening! Don't forget to visit us at www.snailwellgazette.com

Snailwell Gazette Podcast episode #3

Welcome to episode #3!

In this episode we get to know "Gosia" in an interview in a local coffee shop. We also talk quite a bit about Veri Veri Teriyaki sauce from the Soy Vay company. Their website is www.soyvay.com . If you want to make the tofu I was salivating over in the show, just cube up some firm/extra firm tofu. Coat with Veri Veri and spread evenly in a lasagne dish. Bake at about 350 for an hour or so, tossing every so often. You may need to bake a little longer to get a good chewey consistency.

We also relaxed your face, listen repeatedly as needed!

The pick of the week was Knitting for Peace by Betty Christianson. to get your knitting up to par I recommended Stitch and Bitch by Debbie Stoller of Bust magazine royalty.

We just cleaned green using Merlin's Magic. The recipe is adapted from Clean house Clean Planet available at www.greenfeet.com and don't forget to check out the official greenfeet podcast "More Hip Than Hippie".

To make Merlin's Magic take a plant sprayer and fill it almost all the way to the fill line with purified water. Squirt in six tablespoon sized squirts of liquid soap. I recommend Dr. Bronner's magic soap www.drbronner.com . Then add about 60 drops of tea tree oil. You can use this magic solution to clean just about anything! I even use it on laundry as a pre-treater (not that my laundry ever has any stains!) Try it, it works and you can even wash your kid's hands with it.

Our song of the week was "My Brother Sylveste" by the pubcrawlers. Thanks to podsafe audio. Thanks also go out to Paul, Gosia, Jane and Grace. We're off to the wedding!

Cheers,

The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #2

The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #2

Why am I doing the podcast? Enjoy some slightly morbid existential musings.

Visit with Gaynor and find out about her war with noise pollution--the first in a sporadic on-going series.

Snailwell is a tasty place we nosh on Beer, Wine, and Chocolate.

Favorite chocolates were from Green and Black, and Hotel Chocolat. I specifically mentioned being surprised at liking Hotel Chocolat's Cappuccino as I am not a white chocolate fan.

Yoga moment: Shoulder rolls, do them throughout the day and then lay yourself down on a tennis ball to relax if you find any bumps or tension filled knots. I will keep you posted on my own "knot removal saga".

Just Clean Green: We cleaned ourselves with these recipes, for congestion put a few drops of Olbas, eucalyptus, or tea tree oil in water in an oil burner or in water on a heat proof glass dish on the radiator, inhale!

To clean and detox your system try slicing ginger and lemon and pour hot water over them to make a cleansing tea.

To soothe a sore throat, squeeze the juice of a lemon into a cup of hot water. Add a spoon of honey, stir and enjoy!

What's for dinner?: Vegetarian shepard's pie. Saute soy mince, onion, garlic, spices, whatever you have on hand. In the mean time, boil potatos, parsnips, swede (rutabega) or whatever sounds good for mashing. Spread mince on lasagne pan you can sprinkle with cheese if you are feeling wild and spread mash over the top. Cook until browned and bubbly. Serve with peas and/or salad of greens, pears, toasted pecans and blue cheese.

Movie pick: The Parrots of Telegraph hill. I got it through netflix.

Song: Smallfish playing ductape

Theme: The pubcrawlers with my brother Sylveste.

Thanks to the podsafe music network!
